Wins keep stacking up for Bolivar-Richburg

BOLIVAR — The Bolivar-Richburg Central School wrestling team did something Tuesday it hasn’t done in recent memory, or at least since the schools merged in the 1994-95 school year. It beat Canisteo-Greenwood.

With a 42-24 win over the Redskins (4-3), the Wolverines improved to 5-0.

“(Canisteo-Greenwood is) a small-school powerhouse,” Bolivar-Richburg coach Rich Schubmehl said. “They’ve finished first or second in the Sectionals 10 of the last 12 years, so this was a huge win tonight.”

Bolivar-Richburg got key victories from Nick Covert (215) and a pin in 1:53 from Justin Cowell (112).
“We bumped Nick to 215, so he was giving up over 20 pounds and he still had a big win for us,” Schubmehl said. “We knew that (112 pounds) was going to be a big match after giving up a forfeit at 103 (pounds), so (Cowell) came up big for us.”

Andrew Taylor (125), Matt Appleby (130), Dustin Pierce (152) and Robbie Morris (160) had pins for Bolivar-Richburg. Tyler Taylor scored a technical fall at 145.

NUNDA ― Bolivar-Richburg won all but two matches as the Wolverines had a dominating performance against Keshequa, winning 49-24.

Andrew Taylor, Dennis Adams and Derrick Dorvit each won their matches by pinfall while Matt Appleby defeated Paul Kreuzer, 11-4, and Robby Morris beat Jake Dale, 16-7.

"We thought that overall our guys wrestled hard like they always do," Rich Schubmehl. "We were particulary impressed with Matt Appleby. He was wrestling up a class and wrestling against their best wrestler. He was finalist in sectionals the last two years and Matt took it to him."

Mike Moir and Tim Burt were the only winners for the Indians in matches while Matt Kreuzer and Matt Whiteman gave Keshequa forfeit victories.
