The Attica Varsity
Wrestling team was able to put together a successful season after losing
eighteen seniors over the last two years. Even with their inexperience, the Blue
Devils were able to finish 5-2 in the league and 6-6 overall. Attica qualified
three of its wrestlers for the Section 5 state qualifying tournament at
Brockport State University. It was eighth-grader Dylan Rusiniak's first trip,
Senior Jake Gerhardt's second trip to the championships, while it was Bill
Hulme's third.
The Blue Devils finished third in the league behind Genesee Region champions,
Holley Central, and runner-up Kendall. The Kendall match was exciting as it came
down to the last match of the night to decide the outcome. With a large number
of wrestlers returning, as well as many young newcomers on the horizon, the
wrestling future looks bright. Hopefully, sectional title number four is just
around the corner.
The Blue Devils had four seniors conclude their careers here at Attica. They
include John Lippert, Clayton Miller, Jake Gerhardt, and Craig Romesser. We
would like to wish each of them the best of luck in all future endeavors. Thank
you for all your hard work and dedication to the sport of wrestling.
