No. 23 Ithaca Men’s Wrestling Wins 10th Straight Dual Against Cortland

Cortland N.Y.- The NWCA nationally ranked No. 23 Ithaca College men's wrestling team defeated SUNY Cortland on Wednesday evening in a SUNYAC matchup. Despite trailing going into the 165 lbs. bout, the Bombers rattled off four-straight wins to cap the dual on high not winning it 33-15.

Cosmo Damiani earned the Bombers four team points early at 125 lbs. with a 16-2 major decision over Christian Lievano. Jay McDonnell then had a scoreless opening period against Rocco Futia at 133, with the first point coming on an early escape in the second stanza. A takedown midway through second and third period earned McDonnell a 7-3 decision, bringing the Bombers to seven team points.

At 141, George McAteer connected on a reversal before getting pinned in 1:38 by Culley Bellino. Cortland then got their second win of the day as Will Bentrim fell to Angelo Centrone 23-7 for a technical fall in 5:00. Cortland then extended their team lead further to 15-7 as Colton Havens got a dominant win over Brian Bienus.

Momentum shifted when Chris Reddy then got a technical fall for the Bombers at 5:38, getting multiple takedowns to bring the Bomber to 12 team points. At 174, No. 5 Konrad Parker then got IC their second technical fall of the day and the lead after he countered a late escape attempt by Joseph Visciano to earn the 16-1 victory at 7:00.

In the eighth match of the day, Xavier Pommells took a 3-0 lead in the match in waning seconds of the first period. Pommells then extended his lead to 7-1 in the second period with a takedown and an escape. He then finished the match after countering a throw he was able to get his own offense to finish the battle 17-3.

In 197 bout, Ryan Galka and Paul Harley competed to a stalemate through the first period until Galka completed an escape in the beginning of the second period. However, Galka made a quick takedown leading to the pin at 4:12. In the final match Charlie Turner finished off the night for the Bombers with back-to-back pins, giving the Bombers a 27-15 team win, this one was recorded in 1:36 over Chris Ayala.

The Bombers (11-6) are in action again at home on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Wilkes University (7-7) when they host Senior Day.
