Copes clinches fourth 141-pound title of season, Cicco places fifth at 165 at Nassau Open Saturday

NEWS

Trevor Copes' trophy case expanded once again.

For a fourth time this season and the second time in as many weeks, the freshman won the 141-pound championship at the Nassau CC Open Saturday on Long Island. Copes won all five of his matches at Nassau, with three pins and two technical falls.

A resident of Frederica, Del. and Caesar Rodney High School graduate, Copes previously brought home championships at 141 for the Thunderwolves at the Ben McMullen Open (Oct. 31), the Defend the Lake Open (Nov. 8) and the 51st annual Thunderwolves Open (Dec. 6). Copes is now 21-2 on the season.

Teammate Joseph Cicco placed fifth at 165 and went 4-2 on the day. This came after he placed third in the same weight class at the Thunderwolves Open last Saturday. Cicco's performance at Nassau marked the ninth top-five finish of his SUNY Niagara career. A resident of North Tonawanda and Niagara Wheatfield High School graduate, Cicco is now 21-7 on the season.

Ethan Fletcher also placed sixth at 133 during the event. SUNY Niagara returns to action Jan. 3 at the Onondaga CC Duals in Syracuse.
