Cornell Puts On Dominant Performance In Win Over Sacred Heart

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell Big Red wrestling team took down the Sacred Heart Pioneers 48-3 in its first dual of the season at historic Barton Hall Saturday afternoon. The Big recorded four technical falls, three falls and one major decision in front of an energetic crowd.

"This is something I'll remember," freshman Meyer Shapiro said of the atmosphere at Barton Hall, where Cornell hadn't hosted a dual since 2003. "For it to be my first college dual, that makes it even more special. It was awesome to see how many fans came out today."

Freshman Ethan Qureshi fell 8-7 by decision to Andrew Fallon. Qureshi fell behind 3-1 early but tied it and took a 6-3 lead with a takedown in the second period. Fallon recorded two escapes to make it 6-5 before taking the lead for good with a takedown in the third.

Sophomore Vince Cornella beat Vinny Milazzo 3-0 by fall in just over a minute.

Junior Ethan Fernandez jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Mike McGhee with a pair of takedowns. He added another takedown later in the match and added on point for riding time, securing the 11-2 major decision.
