Sindoni Awarded the Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award

BUFFALO, N.Y. - It was a special weekend for D'Youville University women's wrestler Emily Sindoni (Nichols, N.Y.) as she received the Tricia Sanders High School Excellence Award at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

"This award means everything to me," said Sindoni. "It's very exciting and humbling to receive such a great honor. Throughout my wrestling career it has always been my goal to get on the national stage and prove myself. Being recognized for this has showed so many people, including the other female wrestles, that you can achieve anything you put your mind to."

The Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award is presented annually to a female high school senior where is it based equally on outstanding wrestling success, scholastic achievement, and citizenship or community service. In order to be considered, the winner is chosen from state and regional winners.

"The Tricia Saunders Award is truly a recognition of excellence within the wrestling community," said D'Youville University Head Women's Wrestling Coach Carlene Sluberski. "Tricia was a trailblazer in the sport and is one of the reasons we, as women, have a space in the wrestling world. To receive this award, is a very prestigious honor and truly highlights all the work and sacrifices made out of the spotlight. Emily is a great person, student, and of course, athlete. She is a leader by example and will continue to help us build a great culture and set the standard high for D'Youville Women's Wrestling."

Sindoni was awarded the Steve Silver Outstanding Wrestler Award at the conclusion of her senior season, given to the top girl's wrestler in New York.

Sindoni had a decorated career at Tioga Central School, receiving All-County and All-Region honors in 2020, 2022, and 2023, a two-time Section IV Champion, a two-time New York State Champion, and a two-time NHSCA National Champion.

After receiving this prestigious honor, Sindoni will look to carry over the mindset as she is set to make her collegiate debut for the Saints in their inaugural season of competition.

"My mindset has been to just keep working hard and not let anyone stop you," Sindoni said. "I have higher expectations and goals now that I want to achieve. When you want something, you must go after it. The only person that gets in the way is yourself. You must put the work in to accomplish your goals."

Sindoni and the Saints will see their first action of the season on Saturday, November 11th, as they travel to Michigan for the Adrian Duals.
