Nationally Ranked RIT Downs Brockport in Dual

The SUNY Brockport wrestling team lost to host and nationally ranked No. 17 RIT 28-9 in a dual meet on Wednesday night. Matt Caccamise, Zach Levey and Chris Eames each won in their respective weight classes to pace the Golden Eagles.

Brockport (2-1 in duals) returns to the mat on Saturday for the John Summa Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio at 9 a.m.

Nationally ranked Matt Caccamise began the meet with a 7-2 victory over RIT's Logan Patterson in the 125-pound weight class. Freshman Zach Levey gave the Golden Eagles a 6-0 lead when he defeated RIT's Alex Prunoske by the score of 7-0 in the 133-pound weight class to hand Brockport a commanding lead early in the dual.

RIT then rattled off five straight victories to take a 19-6 lead over the visitors. Matt Kline lost a tight 5-2 decision at 165 for Brockport.

Chris Eames won a 6-3 decision at 184 over RIT's Colby Giroux to account for Brockport's final three points of the afternoon. Joe Benedict (197) and Joe Yanis (285) each lost by the score of 3-1 in the final two matches of the evening as the Tigers earned the 28-9 victory.

Following their visit to the John Summa Invitational this weekend, the Golden Eagles will host Penn. Tech and Alfred State for a dual meet on Senior Day at the Jim & John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on Feb. 12th. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
