Brockport, NY – Following a dominating season, Trevor Middendorf and Mike Welsh finished their run at the NCAA DIII Wrestling Championships today.
At 125, Trevor Middendorf fought in the Champ Round 1, where he fell to Nikko Beato of the Coast Guard with an 8-1 decision in the third period. Moving to the preliminary consolation round, Middendorf finished his impressive debut season with the Golden Eagles, falling to Andrew Marchese of Castleton 6-0.
Middendorf earned his spot at nationals following a showout season as a freshman. He contributed to multiple Golden Eagle wins, constantly racking up points in the 125lb division. Middendorf earned Empire 8 Wrestler of the Week honor, finished as a SUNYAC Champion, and took silver at the NCAA Regionals.
Mike Welsh remained strong at 285, but came up just short to Benjamin Katz of Springfield with a 7-5 decision in the third period. Welsh finished out his first season at Brockport in the preliminary consolation round with a 5-1 decision taken by Kamdyn Dorchester of Ithaca, prolonging the match to a sudden victory round and 30-second ride outs.
Welsh made a statement in his first year at Brockport at 285, showing dominance on the mat with a multitude of pins throughout. Welsh earned a second place finish at the Wilkes Invite, finished fourth overall at the SUNYAC Championships, and earned his national qualification at the NCAA Regionals with a silver medal.
