Bulls Close Regular Season with Win at Ohio

ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo wrestling team closed the regular season with an impressive road win at Ohio, defeating the Bobcats, 22-16, at the Convocation Center.

Max Elton got the Bulls on the board with a 5-2 decision over Ryan Meek at 133 to tie the dual at 3-3.

In the next match, Tyler Roark needed only 1:41 to earn his first career pin. The freshman was able to get Prestyn Parks on his back in the first period to extend the UB lead to 9-3.

Sam Ewing followed with a 7-3 decision over Paul Woo at 149.

Kelin Laffey, back in the lineup after sustaining an injury, earned a 9-3 decision over Jack Lledo at 165 to extend the UB lead to 15-6.

Rafael Knapp followed with his biggest win of the season. The redshirt-sophomore earned a 4-2 decision over 22nd-ranked Garrett Thompson who was the defending Mid-American Conference champion.

After consecutive wins by Ohio to pull the Bobcats to within 18-16, it came down to the final match of the night.

Magnus Bibla earned a dominant 9-0 major decision over Wyatt Schmitt to seal the victory for the Bulls.

Up next for Buffalo is the Mid-American Conference Championships at Alumni Arena beginning March 6.
