Elmira Wins Inaugural AMCC Women's Wrestling Championship

NEWS

Elmira College earned 111.5 points at the inaugural AMCC Women's Wrestling Championship to take home the first-ever title in conference history. It was a tight race for the next three spots, as Hiram College finished in second with 61 points, Alfred State College earned 59.5 for third place and John Carroll's 55.5 points put them in fourth. Penn State Altoona and Buffalo State College did not field enough wrestlers to place in the team standings.

The Soaring Eagles' Megan Edwards was tabbed the Wrestler of the Meet.

Elmira saw five women step to the top of the podium as AMCC individual champions, including Abby Duke (100 lbs.), Megan Edwards (124 lbs.), Gabby Bradigan (138 lbs.), Zoey Lints (145 lbs.), and Talia Robles (160 lbs.). Runner-up finishers for the Soaring Eagles include Kali Bailey (131 lbs.), Tess Clabaugh (138 lbs.), Angelina Caban (180 lbs.), and Alexis Bilka-Durdon (207 lbs.).

The Hiram Terriers featured four all-conference winners in Allydia Byard (160 lbs), Cicely Cullins (160 lbs), Alazhandra Williams (180 lbs) and Emily Lorenzon (207 lbs). Hiram's four all-conference selections join the six All-AMCC honorees from 2025; Byard becomes the first student-athlete in program history to earn multiple all-conference awards. Both Williams and Lorenzon won each of their two bouts, with Williams defeating two wrestlers from Elmira: Angelina Caban (technical fall, 10-0) and Nyla Capen (fall, 1:00). Lorenzon also beat a pair of student-athletes from the eventual champions of the event: Alexis Bilka-Durdon (decision, 3-2) and Marissa Crofoot (decision, 10-9). Byard nearly found her way to the top of the leaderboard in the 160-lb bracket, beating Alfred State's Allison Strausbaugh by fall (1:49) and her teammate, Cullins, by fall (0:56). A loss to Elmira's Talia Robles (fall, 2:45) proved to be the final result, but still gave Byard a second-place finish in one of the larger brackets of the event. Cullins, who placed third in the same bracket, finished with a 3-1 record for the day, with that one loss being the bout against Byard.

Alfred State's Dianna Pineda finished first in the 117 bracket. In her lone match of the day, she tallied a 2:43 fall over Hailey Hankinson. Also, in the 117-weight class, Kierra Willis took third place. The Pioneers also had three other third place finishers, Brooke Walsh (131), Christina Paluzzi (138), and Madi Cox (180). After dropping her first match, Walsh tallied back-to-back falls to take third place. For Cox, she fell in her first match and responded with a 1:30 fall in the third-place match. Emily Brown finished fourth in the 145 bracket, while Allison Strausbaugh took fifth in the 160-weight class.

Taylor MacAdam (103) led the way for John Carroll with a first-place effort as an AMCC Champion, JCU's first conference champion on the women's side. Addy Crane (110) and Leslie Sullivan(145) secured runner-up honors. Roma LoGiurato(124) nabbed third, Riley Duffey (124) and Bella Cyrkiel (160) snatched fourth, and Kaiden Boshers (131) rounded things out in fifth. MacAdam reigned triumphant at 103 thanks to a bigtime win, firing up a pin late at the 5:33 mark to take the crown. Sullivan fired up an 11-0 tech fall at 145 to get a shot at the crown. But in the title bout, she lost in a first-period pin. Crane lost her first-place bout via tech fall. Duffey grabbed a pair of wins with an 10-0 tech fall and an 11-0 tech fall. But in the 124-pound title match, she ran into LoGiurato. Her teammate fired up a pair of pin wins to get into the third-place match, losing only to the AMCC's wrestler of the meet, Megan Edwards of Elmira. LoGiurato won the JCU-on-JCU battle for third. Cyrkiel settled for fourth in a 2-2 day, highlighted by a pin win for starters and then a 10-5 decision to get to the third-place bout, which she lost in a 10-0 tech fall.

While Penn State Altoona and Buffalo State did not meet the minimum participation numbers for a team score, they still had some wrestlers see individual success.

Penn State Altoona's Gianna Slusser placed first in the 131-class, Naomi Nachmias placed second in the 103-class, Richele Reyes placed second in the 124-class, and Aliana Romero placed sixth in the 160-class.

For Buffalo State, Hailey Hankinson finished second in the 117-lb. class, while Rosaliz Aponte finished third in the 145-lb. class. Ceci Williams and Taylor Thornton competed in the 207-lb. class, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Final Results
1. Elmira (111.5)
2. Hiram (61)
3. Alfred State (59.5)
4. John Carroll (55.5)
