St. John Fisher Dominates Oswego 31-10 In SUNYAC Dual Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher wrestling team won seven of 10 matches in a 31-10 SUNYAC dual victory on Friday night at Laker Hall.

The Cardinals improved their dual record to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC competition with the victory. Oswego, which has lost its last three dual meets, dropped to 1-12.

Fisher earned bonus points with six of its seven victories, a total that included three major decisions, a pair of technical falls and a fall.

The Cardinals won five straight matches after Oswego State's Juan Roque began the dual with a 10-8 win by decision over Carl Santariello at 125 pounds. Senior Derek Bernardino (133lbs) topped Ben Burkhardt 20-4 by technical fall in just over six minutes, junior Luke Yorke (141lbs) edged Michael Santone 4-2 by decision and sophomore Trevor Bishop (149) took down Donovan Rail 17-1 by technical fall in 2:39 to give the Cardinals a commanding 13-3 lead.

Junior Paul Lichter (157) and senior Trevor Sheehan (165 pounds) added to Fisher's lead with major decisions to make it 21-3.

Oswego got back on the board with wins by Jayden Kiell and Avery Canzano in the 174-pound and 184-pound bouts, respectively, before the Cardinals finished with two more bonus-point wins. Senior Braydon Vandenberg (197lbs) beat Kevin Arriaza 9-1 by major decision, and Micah Gillespie (HWT) pinned Evan Cataldo in 1:01, putting the finishing touches on the dominant victory.
