NEWS

UTICA, NY - The Empire 8 has announced their athletes of the week, honoring Utica men's wrestler Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) as its Wrestler of the Week for his third time this season. In addition, this becomes the fourth time a Utica wrestler has achieved the honors this season. Richardson and the Pioneers will look ahead to a tri-meet at Lackawanna College this upcoming Saturday.

Richardson continued his strong presence for the Pioneers with a second-place finish in the 174-pound bracket of Lycoming College's Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Invitational. En route to his silver-medal placement, Richardson defeated King's College's Alex Ballantyne and Scranton's Jake Rudy. The victory over Ballantyne came via fall after 6:05, with Richardson up 5-3 in the scoring at the time. The following match, an 8-5 decision victory in favor of Utica, sent Richardson to the first-place match, where he was defeated by Lycoming's Nolen Zeigler via fall after 2:12.

Utica men's wrestling returns to action this Saturday, February 7th, in a tri-meet hosted by Lackawanna College at their Student Union. Action is set to begin at 12:00 pm.
