WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point wrestling found themselves even with the Lehigh Mountain Hawks after two bouts Sunday at Christl Arena, but never got closer in the dual between the two squads who came into the afternoon unbeaten in EIWA action.
Army would take a 29-11 defeat to its foe from the Keystone State to fall to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in conference action in 2025-26. The Black Knights claimed two bouts in bonus point fashion, as well as the heavyweight match to send the Christl faithful home on a high note.
The 285 lb bout served as a key Army highlight Sunday, with Brady Colbert claiming victory over Lehigh's Nathan Taylor, ranked No. 5 in the Intermat Poll. Colbert—himself at No. 17 in Intermat—held a 4-1 lead in the final period and put any doubt aside in the closing moments with a late takedown and riding time point to win 8-1.
In the opening bout Saturday, Charlie Farmer stayed within a takedown of Sheldon Seymour for most of the match at 125 lbs, but conceded a pair of takedowns in the third to give up a major decision.
Ethan Berginc followed at 133 lbs and with the help of a few late period takedowns and mat returns, answered with a major decision of his own to even the dual at 4-4 with an 11-1 bout win over Mason Ziegler.
Lehigh would however take the dual lead once more in the following bout, with Luke Stanich collecting a 22-5 technical fall over Braden Basile at 141 lbs.
Trailing 6-0 at 149 lbs, Conor Collins ignited a rally in the first period with a reversal, continuing his momentum with a second period escape and takedown to tie the bout. Trailing 7-6 late in the third period, Collins won a stall point but gave up a riding time point, and his comeback attempt fell just short vs. Matt Repos.
Joseph Antonio had Logan Rozynski on the ropes a few times early in the 157 lb bout, but he gave up a pair of takedowns at the end of the second period and beginning of the third from the neutral position, and would take a major decision defeat after surrendering late exposure points.
Gunner Filipowicz came out of halftime for Army at 165 lbs and provided some early excitement, scoring exposure points right off the bat in the opening period against Max Brignola. However, a pair of Brignola takedowns in the second tied the match, before the Mountain Hawk wrestler finished the bout in the third with a pin.
At 174 lbs, Cooper Haase took the mat and again jumped out to an early lead, with a first period takedown and near fall against Zeke Dubler. Haase would keep the pressure on for the duration of his match, and walked off the mat with his arm raised after a 16-3 major decision win.
Dave Barrett conceded a reversal in the second period on his way to a defeat at 184 lbs at the hands of Rylan Rogers, who secured the major decision with a pair of takedowns in the third.
With both Wolfgang Frable and JT Davis earning quick escape points in the second and third respectively at 197 lbs, the match went into sudden victory. Davis however would take the match with a decisive takedown in the extra stanza's closing minute, before Colbert ended the dual one match later with his win at heavyweight.
