Carter Baer Selected as EIWA Wrestler of the Week

NEWS

Second time this season that Baer has earned the honor; follows his ranked win over No. 16 Jasiah Queen on Jan. 16

VESTAL, N.Y. – For the second time this season, Carter Baer has been named the Wrestler of the Week by the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA), the conference announced Wednesday.

This follows Baer winning both of his dual matches for the Binghamton wrestling team last weekend. His first victory was the most notable, as Baer defeated No. 16 Jasiah Queen of Drexel 2-0 in the 174 lb., bout on Jan. 16. It marked the fifth time this season that Baer has beaten a ranked opponent, with Queen being the highest-ranked. Baer followed that with a 5-0 decision against Franklin & Marshall's Brandon Carr on Jan. 18, helping the Bearcats defeat the Diplomats 23-14. With his two victories, Baer improved his overall record to 13-2 and his dual record to 7-0.

Baer also moved up in all of the latest national rankings. The Gouverneur, N.Y., native now ranks No. 18 in The College Wrestling Report's latest poll after he gained five spots. Baer also moved up six spots in the FloWrestling rankings, five in the InterMat poll and two in the WrestleStat rankings. He is now ranked No. 21 in each of those three polls.

Baer was previously named the Wrestler of the Week by the EIWA on Nov. 12, 2025, after he won all three of his matches to take home the Journeymen Collegiate Classic championship. During that stretch, Baer picked up his first two ranked victories of the season, when he took down No. 26 Nick Fine of Columbia 9-6 in sudden victory and No. 28 Derek Gilcher of Indiana 2-0.

This marks the third season in a row that a Binghamton wrestler has been chosen as the Wrestler of the Week by the EIWA on two occasions. Will Ebert won the award twice during the 2024-25 season, while current Binghamton assistant coach Lou DePrez accomplished that feat in 2023-24.

Baer and the Bearcats wrap up their home schedule by hosting both Brown and Harvard in a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 25 in the Events Center. Binghamton first faces Brown at 4 p.m., followed by Harvard at 6 p.m. In between the duals, the Bearcats will honor their members of the Class of 2026 as part of Senior Day. Alums of Binghamton University are also invited to attend and celebrate Alumni Day. Admission to both duals is free on behalf of the New York Army National Guard.
