NEWFANE - Matt Lingle was ecstatic when he talked about the growth he saw on the mat.
At the start of last season, Newfane had a few weight classes to fill, thanks to the graduation of 12 seniors. There were still those like Aidan Gillings, already a two-time state finalist before his sophomore year, still in the fold, but, for Lingle, there was some intrigue of who would step up.
Fast forward to one year later, where the Panthers have gone from plugging holes to having a firm foundation towards chasing its many goals, ranging from winning an 11th consecutive Niagara-Orleans League championship to returning to the state duals and sending as many as possible to Albany.
