The SUNY Brockport wrestling team scored 220.5 points and earned a second place finish out of six teams at the 35th annual John Summa Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace in Ohio on Saturday. Brockport's Zach Levey (133), Eli Sims (141), and Richard Knapp (285) each posted first-place finishes to lead the way for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles return to the mat on Saturday when they host Penn Tech and Alfred State for Senior Day at 12 p.m. The tri-meet will take place at Jim & John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
Brockport freshman Zach Levey took home the top honors in the 133-pound division as he was a perfect 3-0. He pinned Hiram's Grayson Smith in 40 seconds in his first match and won by tech fall over Jayden Hansen in the semifinals. He then pinned Baldwin Wallace's Jaden Hinton in just 40 seconds in the first-place match to earn the 133 title. Levey is now 18-5 on the season for the Golden Eagles.
Richard Knapp had another dominant day as he posted two pins and a decision victory to take home the top honors in the heavyweight division. Baldwin Wallace's Jarod Miller forfeited in the final as Knapp took home the first-place crown. He is now 19-2 on the year.
Brockport's Eli Sims is coming into form after returning to the team in the second semester. He went 3-0 on the day and earned the 141-pound title. He pinned his quarterfinal opponent in 2:49 and won a 4-0 decision in the semifinals. He then won a major decision against Alfred State's Sean Peterson, 13-4, in the finals to take home the 141 title. Sims is now 7-2 on the season.
Nationally-ranked Matt Caccamise went 2-1 on the day and took home second place in the 125 pound weight class for the Golden Eagles. He won his first match via tech fall and then added an 8-6 decision victory in the semifinal over Baldwin Wallace's David Panda. Caccamise lost in the first-place match against BW's Jacob Decatur by way of a 4-1 decision. He is now 13-3 on the season.
Matt Kline had a big day for the Golden Eagles, posting a 2-1 record on his way to a second place finish in the 165 pound weight class. Kline now has 10 wins this season. He won a 3-1 decision in the quarterfinals and a 10-2 major decision over Alfred State's Ben Rivera in the semifinals before losing in the first place match.
Nick Franco placed second in the 197-pound weight class and earned 17 team points for Brockport. He went 2-1 on the day, pinning one opponent in the quarterfinals before beating Ohio Northern's Jimmy Paletta by way of an 8-1 decision in the semifinals. He lost to Alfred State's Blake Ilges in the first-place match.
Chris Eames placed third after a 3-1 day in the 184-pound weight class. He posted two pins and defeated Ohio Northern's Zac Dabney by the score of 8-1 in the third-place match. Eames is now 14-6 this season.
Brockport's Joe Yanis posted a third-place finish at 285 for Brockport after going 4-1 on the day. After losing in his first match of the day, he rattled off four straight victories, including a 4-2 win over Ohio Northern's Ben DePrest in the third-place match.
Brockport's Francis Whitehouse placed fourth at 141 after going 3-2 on the day.
Marquis Larmond went 3-2 overall on the day and earned 12.0 team points and a fifth-place finish in the 149 division for the Golden Eagles.
