Pioneers compete at Jamestown Tourney

The Alfred State College wrestling team traveled to the Jamestown CC Invitational on Saturday for their final regular season tournament.

Tyler Shepard (Camden) was the lone Pioneer that placed in the event that featured over 100 wrestlers. Shepard finished 4th at 197 pounds with a 3-1 record in the event. He registered a 14-0 victory over Mark Tiano, fell 17-5 to Lyle Cerminara, won his next match 6-2 in the conolation bracket, and then defeated David Bush 10-4 in his final match. Shephard was scheduled to wrestle in the 3rd place match but had to take a medical forfeit after an injury.

Travis Prell (Cato-Meridian) was 2-2 on the day while Greg Davis (Alfred Almond) was 1-2. Prell (149 lbs) defeated Gus Marzur 8-0 in his opening match and then won a 7-5 decision over Jordan Zipkin before falling in his next two matches. Davis (157) lost a tough 3-1 decision to Brian Lockard in his opening match but rebounded for a 5-1 victory over Chris Nobekcly in the consolation first round. Davis' day ended when he fell in his next match.

The Pioneers wrap up the regular season with two WNYAC dual meets. On Wednesday the team will travel to Mercyhurst North East to take on the Saints. The action begins at 7 p.m. ASC will travel to Niagara CCC on Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual-meet with the Trailblazers.Wrestlers finish 16th at NYS Championships.
