ALBANY — Mike Rigerman's dominant season on the wrestling mat concluded with the most pressure-filled situation.
The Pioneer 220-pounder reached this weekend's New York state championships with a perfect record, having never trailed in a match. However, in Saturday night's title bout featuring Division 2's top two seeds, No. 1 Rigerman found himself locked in a 2-2 tie heading into the third period. But that's where the Panthers' multi-sport star cemented his legacy.
Rigerman came up with an escape and takedown to take the lead and prevailed, 5-3, over South Seneca's Keagan Carmenatty.
