An unquestioned success was the first New York State Public High School Athletic Association Dual Meet Championships.

Saturday's wrestling event was well attended, fans provided an electric setting and Section 4 showed it belonged, which was expected in Division II, but I'll admit to being surprised that Division I squads Elmira and Horseheads departed Onondaga Community College with 1-1 records. Perhaps that's a sign Section 4's Division I wrestlers will have a better showing in a few weeks in Albany.

As I recall, talk of a state dual meet tournament started in the late-1990s. Why it took 20-some years to come to fruition is anyone's guess, but this will become an annual event. I'm convinced of that.

Every person I talked to Saturday had a favorable opinion.
