ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Kyle Borshoff continued his drive to capture a state wrestling championship as the Pittsford senior pinned his way through the Division 1 Super Sectionals last weekend at Fairport High School.

Borshoff (36-0 this season) won with 130-pound division two technical falls and a pin.He scored a 22-7 technical fall over Spencerport's Chris Collura in the finals. The Panther Class AA champion posted a technical fall over Irondequoit's John Pelc, the Section 4 fourth place finisher, 19-4, in the quarterfinals on Friday. Borshoff pinned Victor's Marcus Epling in 3:11 in Saturday's semifinal round.

Ellis, the Class A 103-pound champion, earned his trip to this weekend's state tournament at the Nassau County Memorial Coliseum by knocking off three Class AA wrestlers.

"It was all just so fast, " Ellis said. "I just look forward going to states. I can't believe I did it. I had the goal from the beginning of the year to do it. I always knew that it was possible, so I just focused on the whole year that it was possible. "

The Baron grappler started the tournament with a 6-0 decision over Hilton's Nate Smith in the quarters. He faced Class AA runner up, Matt Piedimonte of Spencerport, in the semifinals.

Ellis dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Piedimonte in the county semifinals two weeks earlier. This time the Baron prevailed 3-1.

Next up was county and Class AA champion, Alex Marianetti of Greece Athena. Ellis did not wrestle Marianetti this year.

"I've wrestled him about four or five times in the past, " said Ellis. "Then I wrestled him over the summer in camps, but I've never beat him. I kind of picked a good time. "

Trailing 2-1 in the final minute of the match, Ellis scored a pancake takedown with three seconds left for a 3-2 win. The Trojan posted a first-period takedown, but Ellis rode him out in the second period. Ellis escaped in the third before flattening Marianetti for the winning points.

The other Monroe County wrestlers who earned a trip to the state meet include: from Brockport - Trevor Irwin (96), John-Martin Cannon (135), Eric Schuth (160), and Alex Nwaehujor (215); from Penfield - Ryan Nicoletta (112); from Hilton - Mark Ranzenbach (125); from Greece Athena - Brandon Volpe (140); from Greece Olympia - Phil Lombardo (145); from Spencerport - Bryan Bourne (152); and from Churchville-Chili - Mike Castro (275).

Pittsford's Cory Borshoff won his 112 quarterfinal match over Irondequoit's Kenny Jarrell, 8-2, but lost to Greece Olympia's Josh Veltre in the semifinals in overtime.

Panther Kenny Woodward pinned T.J. May of Wayne in 2:41 of the 275 quarters, but then lost in overtime to Matt Caternolo of Thomas, 2-1, on an escape in the semifinals.

C.J. Howard lost his 96-pound quarterfinal to Vinnie DiGravio of Wayne. Cam Kelly dropped his 103 quarter bout to Canandaigua's Nick Hibbard. Chris Henderson fell to Geneva's Josh Bloom in the 171 quarters.

Brighton's Joey DiSalvo, the Class A champion, earned his way to the 215 finals as he scored a major decision over Hilton's Andy Wright, and pinned Eric Leusch of Irondequoit in 2:55 in the semifinals. DiSalvo too Alex Nwaehujor of Brockport to overtime, but the Blue Devil scored an escape for the 2-1 win.

Baron Sean Rutan gained the 125 semis with a 5-2 decision over Spencerport's Dave Inclema, but then lost to Penfield's C.J. Fogle. Matt Mahon fell to Rush-Henrietta's Mike Heath in the 275 quarters. Shin Wakabayashi lost his 96-pound quarters bout to eventual champion Trevor Irwin of Brockport.

Fairport's Sean Sechrist blanked Alex Litto of Webster Thomas, 2-0, in their 160 quarterfinal bout. Sechrist then lost to James Lyons of Geneva in the semis.

Red Raider Seth Elvin dropped his 130-pound quarter match to Marcus Epling of Victor in overtime.

Phil Bianchi of McQuaid fell to Spencerport's Chris Vigliotti in the 145 quarters.

Webster Thomas coach Neil Cook received the Terry Justics Award.

"I knew something was fishy, " he said. "I saw my mom. my dad, and my grandmother here, but it was an incredible honor, and my high school coach (Mark Hoyt) gave it to me. "

A moment of silence also was given in memory of coaches Arthur "Bear " Connorton, who started the Irondequoit wrestling program, and Gordon Pegg, who coached at Monroe High and Marshall High, before the start of the finals.

The 2007 and 2009 tournaments are set for the Pepsi Center in Albany, according to state wrestling coordinator Don DeBadts. He also is trying to finalize Albany for the 2008 tournament.

"We're trying to get Albany as the permanent site, " DeBadts said.
