Wrestlers Open up at Brockport

The Alfred State College wrestling team opened up their 2005-06 season with an impressive start at the SUNY Brockport Open. The Pioneers had one first place finisher, three 2nd place finishers, a 3rd place finisher, and a 4th place finisher.

Bryon Fredenburg (Tioga) won the individual championship at 197 lbs. He won 14-5 in his opener, earned a pin in 1:48 in the semifinals, and won the championship match 6-0.

At 125 lbs. Zac Condidorio (LeRoy) won 12-9 his opening, won 6-5 in his next match, and advanced to the finals with a 7-1 victory. He would settle for 2nd place after falling in the championship round.

Anthony Freije (Whitney Point) opened up action in the 133 lb competition with an 8-5 victory. In the second round he pinned his opponent in 4:50 to advance in the finals. In the finals he fell 20-5.

Greg Davis (Alfred Almond) also earned 2nd place honors in the 157 lb. weight class. Davis received medical forfeits in his first two matches to advance to the finals. In the finals he fell 7-2 to Brad Shaw from SUNY Brockport.

Chris Marks (Barkhamsted, CT) finished 3rd at 157 lbs and Garret Stephen (Pioneer) finished 4th at 165 lbs.

The Pioneers will now shift their focus to next weekend's Slippery Rock Open. Action begins at 10 a.m.
