Herman victorious again

GENESEO - Tim Herman's list of wrestling accomplishments just continue to grow.

The Byron-Bergen senior added two more trophies to his collection while becoming the first four-time champion at the Genesee Valley Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Geneseo High School.

Herman decisioned Rush-Henrietta's Pete Friello 10-0 at 126 pounds to bring home his fourth tournament title and second straight most outstanding wrestler award.

Three other area wrestlers - Letchworth's Dan Beaumont, Kendall's Wade Marriott, and Warsaw's Gary Robb, also brought home first place trophies while Newark finished finished first in the team competition with 199.5 points.

A total of 10 area teams help comprise the 31-team field. Warsaw led the way in the team competition by finishing fourth.

Beaumont scored a 5-2 win over Newark's Tim Steingass at 112, Marriott downed Todd Montado of Sodus 5-3 at 145, and Robb defeated Pavilion's Kevin Baker 7-0 at 215.

Lyndonville's J.J. Romano lost an 8-5 decision to Webster's Jeff Linder in the finals at 98.

Alexander's Brian Schaal (91), Holley's Jeff Cooper (105), Warsaw's Shannon Davies (126), Holley's Frank Distasio (155) and Attica's Don Head (252) all finished third.

Pavilion's Ron Powell (145) and Byron-Bergen's John Kuszlyk (167) and Mike Nixon (250) both finished fourth.
