Varsity Wrestling Team Wins First County Championship
The 1976-77 Varsity
Wrestling Team will be remembered! The fourteen wrestlers who made up this team
compiled the most outstanding records in the history of Le Roy wrestling. The
grapplers' league record of 11 wins and 1 loss gave them the Livingston County
Athletic Association Championship.
Dan Shaughnessy and
Chris Garner placed first and Ed
Spink and Will Mowry
placed second in the Genesee Valley Tournament to pace the team to their second
place finish. The wrestlers placed first in the L.C.A.A. Tournament with an
outstanding margin of twenty points. Ed Spink,
Dan Shaughnessy, and Chris Garner placed first in this tournament, and
Steve Gerlach and Mark MacGregor
The grapplers finished
off their season in style as they traveled to the Section V Class A Tournament.
Superlative individual performances by Shaughnessy and Spink, Joe
Condidorio, Pat Condidorio,
and Garner enabled this team to give their most outstanding performance of the
season. The wrestlers amassed 88.5 points to take second to a very strong East
and Spink were the outstanding wrestlers of the year. They both advanced to the
semi-final round of the Section V State Qualifying Tournament. Shaughnessy had
an overall record of 29 wins and 1 loss. Spink led the team in pins.
