DiBella of Pittsford Wins Mat Crown
ROCHESTER - Pittsford's Ernie DiBella and Arcade's Ron Tojdowski bagged individual championships to spark Section 5 to a fourth-place finish behind state titlist Section 4 in the Intersectional Wrestling Tournament last night at RIT's George Clark gym.
Section 4 amassed an 80-point total for first place while runnerup Section 11 netted 77. Section 8 followed with 68; Section 5 scored 55; Section 3, 44; Section 9, 41; Section 2, 22; Section 6, 20; Section 1, 15; Section 7, 8.
DiBella posted a 7-1 decision in the 178-lb. class over Ed Carlsson of Valley Stream, Section 8, in the finals. Todjowski decisioned Bill Schmidt of Kennedy, Section 8, 5-4, to capture his 168-lb. crown.
Other Section 5 finalists were Livonia's Tony Backus and East Rochester's Mike Duffy.
Backus dropped a 10-2 decision to John Henning of Wantagh, Section 8, while Duffy lost on a referee's decision to Bill Proios of Port Jefferson, Section 11.
Section 5 semi-finalists were Rick Zweig of Irondequoit and Tim Dietrich of Corning West.
