Archives

E-mail corrections or additions to info@armdrag.com.

ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Starting slowly, this year's wrestlers finally put their wins together and came up with four wins in their last five outings. Perhaps the most outstanding wrestlers were senior co-captain Tom Skola (8-2) and John Batt (8-2-1). Both gave the U of R wrestling fans many exciting matches, displaying many moves and combinations in compiling their fine records. Jack Beck's scrappy nature coupled with his hard work enabled him to come up with a 8-3 season. Senior co-captain came up with his wins in crucial meets, overshadowing his 5-4-1 record. The most improved wrestler on the squad was senior heavyweight Earl Thomas. Although he had no intercollegiate wrestling experience, Earl, wrestling last on the program, clinched almost all the team's victories with crucial wins. Rounding out the team, Dave Eisenberg, George Blickensderfer, and Elliot Katz put in fine supporting performances. (Interpres, 1966)

NOTE: These photos are from the U of R 1966 yearbook, so it's possible that they are from the 1965-66 team rather than the 1964-65 team.  But in every U of R yearbook before this one, the teams listed are clearly marked as being from the season before last.
