ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

The C.F.A. wrestling
squad proved to be, once again, one of the outstanding athletic teams of the
year. Turning in its second undefeated season in a row, and the fourth in seven
years of the sport at school, with 14 wins and no losses. The varsity grapplers
extended their win streak to a record-breaking 27 consecutive matches. C.F.A.'s
previous standard of 25 straight victories was halted by Northside, so it was
sweet revenge for the Bulldogs when they overpowered the Tigers for the second
time near the end of the season. The team's overall record is now an astounding
70-10 for seven years.
Only one team scored more than 20 points against the varsity boys, who downed
many rugged teams by favorable margins. Some of the toughest competitors were
Elmira
Southside, Horseheads, Seneca Falls, and Geneva, although the scores of the
matches may not show this. In the Hornell Holiday Wrestling Tournament at
Christmas time, Bud Thurber and Neal Pipe won first place trophies and Mike
Mihalko, Fred Tarantelli, and Bob Turner took second places. Eleven schools
participated in the competition.
The outstanding wrestler of the season was unbeaten senior Bud Thurber, who
finished with a 17-0 record. Seniors Dick Galusha, 16-1, and Bob Turner, 15-1-1,
also showed impressive records, each dropping his only match of the year in the
Holiday Tournament. Sophomore Neal Pipe lost the last match of the year but won
all of his other 17 matches, 15 by pins.
The junior varsity wrestlers put in a very good season under the coaching of
Charles Adams. With six varsity men and a number of excellent junior varsity
grapplers returning next year, Coach Joe Corcoran may confidently expect another
superb season.
