ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

GENEVA, March 5 - Seven Rochester high school wrestlers won Section 5 championships here today.

West and Madison grapplers won two each. The West winners were Willie Weaver and Mike Tartaglia. Madison's champs were Tom Smith and Charles McGowan.

The other winners were Billy Protz, East; Nate Turner, Franklin, and John Billone, Jefferson.

In closest title match, Billy Brooks of Geneva snared a 2-0 decision from Edision's Charlie Caleo. Brooks and Caleo wrestled to a scoreless match until the third period when the scrappy Panther won two points. He held on as the clock ran out. It was Billy's 58th victory in four years and Charlie's first loss this season.

In the big upset, Corning North Side's Tom Brockway, defending his crown, fell victim to some smart grappling by West High's Willie Weaver, who grabbed four points in the opening canto, then fought for time as he took shield from the Southern tier youngster.

What was heralded as a tough match between shield holders turned out to be a quick affair. Tommy Smith of Madison and Augie Caveletti of Hornell locked horns in a meeting of 1959 sectional kings, but Tommy had little difficulty in pinning Auggie.

Two close bouts were decided by an extra point given for riding time. East High's Billy Protz took a 7-6 decision over Wellsville's Billy Covel and Stan Gridley of Corning North won a close one from Madison High's Bob Abbey. Both matches ended in ties and the riding time proved the deciding factor.

Two of the three Penn Yan wins came via the fall route. The Marchionda boys, Dick and Larry, both pinned their Rochester rivals, while sophomore Mel Brinson won a 3-0 decision from Monroe High's Bob Mosier in a rough and tumble bout.

Winners tonight were awarded state shields by Section 5 chairman Harold (Doc) Bonisteel of Geneva. The runnersup were given certificates.
