Wrestling is a relative
newcomer to the family of varsity sports at Hilton Central School. In the fall
of each year, many boys proclaim an interest in this oldest of all sports.
Unfortunately few persevere until spring.
The 1956-57 season
began, much as usual, with 28 boys on the roster. By tournament time late in
February, only four seniors, one junior, and two underclassmen continued to
attend conditioning practice. Of these, Bob Kelly
at 145 pounds; Bob Newsome at 154 pounds;
and Bill Kuefer, unlimited; won places in
the pre-quarterfinals of the Section V tournament.
As the number of boys in
high school gradually increases, interest in wrestling should reach a point
where a regular series of home and away matches may be scheduled with other
schools in the county. (Hiltorial,
