Coach: Mr. O'Donnell
This is the second year that Attica High School has had wrestling in its athletic curriculum. In its inaugural year, it was quite popular, but now, under Coach O'Donnell's supervision, it has also been accepted by the students as a major sport.
Coach O'Donnell has been successful in piloting our wrestling team. This has been proved by the number of times our grapplers have won over opponents, of whom several have been more experienced than our boys.
This is the first year of wrestling for Roger Burg, Mike Fugle, Bert Fugle, Carl Beck, Bill Hand, and Dale Slocum. Paul Mapes, who wrestled in the sectionals at Rochester, left toward the end of this wrestling season, but we have another grappler, Bruce Wilson, who joined our team to take his place.
Our first wrestling match was at Amherst. It was a hard fought battle and A.H.A. emerged victorious with a score of 25-24. In a return meet at Attica, we defeated them again, by a score of 23-17. When we wrestled Letchworth, we lost by a score of 11-24. At one of our home matches, our grapplers defeated Perry by a score of 40-8.
In the past two years of competition at A.H.S., wrestling has proved to be a strong up and coming sport. Wrestling has given each boy an opportunity to develop in high school a competitive sport where sportsmanship and good school spirit are encouraged. (SOURCE: Attica Central School yearbook, 1951)
