ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

1924-25 West Occidentals

Coach: Mr. Emil Hulek
Manager: F. Schanz
Captain: J. Krank

Record: 4 Wins, 4 Losses

1924-25 West Occidentals Wrestling Team

FRONT ROW: Milligan, Frazer, Felli, Knight, Hooker. BACK ROW: Vallone, Magro, Krank, Fremouw. (SOURCE: Occident, West High, June 1925.)

The West High wrestling team this year will be composed of veterans from last year's team which was runner-up for the city championship. The veterans who Coach Hulek will have as a nucleus are: Barons, Krank, Sandholzer, Gentile, Katsampes, Stevens, and Knight. The schedule calls for mmany hard meets including Cornell Freshmen, East High, and Technical High wrestling teams. Coach Hulek has issued a call for material to fill the few remaining places on the team, and judging from these turn-outs it seems as if there will be some stiff competition. West High grapplers won every fall but one from Charlotte High yesterday afternoon and easily walked off the mat with first honors and a score of 28 to 6. The Westsiders won four falls and two decisions over their Lakeside rivals. The only match to go adversely to the Occidentals was that between Meyer and Holley, of Charlotte, the later gaining a fall to give the visitors their six points. Meyer made a quick change from a journalist's occupation to the squared circle, and while losing indicated that he would become a powerful unit to Coach Hulek's machine with more practice.

EAST HIGH GRAPPLERS NOSE OUT OCCIDENTAL MAT SQUAD

East High's wrestling team won over the West High grapplers yesterday afternoon at West High gymnasium, 24 to 20. Coach Hulek's squad did better than was expected, winning just as many matches as the Eastsiders, buy McKay's men won all theirs by falls while two of West High's wins were by virtue of judge's decisions. The Occidentals have practically a new team this year and did well against the strong East High team. The win is the second in as many starts for the Purple and White, which puts them in the lead in the public high school race. Every other team in the league has lost at least one meet.

The Eastsiders were handicapped somewhat by the loss of Freckleton, star heavyweight performer, but Paine, wrestling in his place, put up a hard battle, losing to Filley by judge's decision after nine minutes of wrestling. None of the eight matches was won easily. Benz, new star of the East High team, won in the shortest length of time, 3 minutes and 4 seconds over Magro, of West. Shapiro, East High captain, had his hands full with Milligan, a newcomer of the West High team.

The most interesting match on the program was that between Krank, veteran of the West High team, and Fancy. Fancy was substituted in Emanuel's place for the Orientals. Krank is the best man in the city in his class and knows many tricks of the mat game. Fancy wrestled the Westsider on even terms for the first five minutes. After he had weakened Krank clamped a body scissors to pin his shoulders to the mat.

The Eastsiders took the lead early in the meet but the Occidentals came back strong winning three out of four matches. Knight performed well for the Occidentals in the 145 pound class, gaining a judge's decision over McKay.

TECH HIGH OUTFIT BEATS WEST HIGH
Vallone and Bell Feature Fast Mat Contest

The Tech High matmen scored a victory over the West High grappers last night at Monroe Junior High, 24 to 20. The meet was closely contested, both teams winning four matches. The Tech men won three matches by falls and was awarded one forfeit as Coach Emil Hulek did not have a wrestler to put in the 125-pound class. The Westsiders won just as many matches as the Tech men but two of the victories of the Orange and Black grapplers came by means of judge's decisions and did not count as much in the scoring.

A large crowd witnessed the bouts and were well pleased at the showing of the high school grapplers. Some real interesting bouts were staged. Vallone and Bell wrestled fifteen minutes in the curtain raiser before the judge's were able to make a decision. They finally decided in favor of the West High man. Chaffrey, Tech entrant in the 118-pound class showed considerable skill in winning over Magro. Both Bradbury, star of the Tech team, who has won twenty-one consecutive matches, was forced to remain idle as there was no man to meet him.

Captain Johnny Kress, of Tech, and Sandholzer, put on a thrilling match in the 155-pound class. The match was fast for the time it lasted, both men showing some clever wrestling. Kress finally pinned his man with an arm scissors and arm lock.
